DINERS ARE HOOKED ON BRITISH FISH AND CHIPS

- MEGAN BIROT

IT’S official! The fish and chips at the Great British Fryer cod not be batter.

The Helensvale seafood eatery has snagged the People’s Choice Award and the Judges Award for their fish and chips in the Queensland Seafood Industry Awards.

Owner Tracey Corrigan said the secret weapon to being the best in the business was the quality of their North Atlantic cold water fish.

“We import it from the UK only hours after the fish are caught and get it delivered straight here,” she said.

“We also home make our chips on site in purpose built fryers and use British batter.

“We get through about a tonne of potatoes a week at the moment.”

Fish and chips connoisseur Millie Antliff, 16, said the fresh cut chips at Great British Fryer didn’t compare to anywhere else.

“The chips are my favourite because you can tell they’re fresh,” she said. “I have them with salt and vinegar, that’s the British way.”

Great British Fryer took out the Judges Award after secret diners visited the Helensvale eatery and evaluated it on criteria including customer service, labelling, taste and product knowledge.
