Hotel already a sellout

A SOUTHPORT hotel which is yet to be finished has had all of its 103 rooms booked for Commonwealth Games officials, media and dignitaries.

The Woodroffe, in Southport, is one of dozens of hotels and resorts which have been named as official accommodation providers for the Games in April next year.

This is despite the rooms not being due for completion until September.

It will be the first boutique hotel in Southport.

Woodroffe co-owner and general manager Yiheng Chu said the hotel aimed to attract mostly corporate clients but also offered rooms for families and those with a disabilities.

“We have already fully booked-up 100 rooms for the Commonwealth Games period,” she said.

“We also have a conference room they are very interested in booking as well.”

Goldoc is yet to determine who will stay in the hotel which will also include a licensed cafe, business centre and offices on the ground level.

Ms Chu, who moved to Australia 30 years ago, said the hotel was aiming to open in September.

“I just wanted to do something to contribute to the local community of the Gold Coast and Australia.” she said.

Southport councillor Dawn Crichlow said the boutique hotel was a boon for the area.

She dismissed suggestions the hotel, which has only 16 car parks for its 103 rooms, would cause parking nearby streets.

“We have got Athol Paterson Car Park and that's still cheap to park in and we have Mal Burke Car Park,” she said.

“I don’t believe there will be any problem. Most people using this will be not have a car anyhow.”

Athol Paterson Car Park, the closest car park, is a 250m from the hotel on the corner of Garden and White streets and costs $5 a day to park.

Mal Burke Car 650m away.

Cr Crichlow said a part of the hotel’s appeal was that it was “handy to everything”.

Major construction has been completed but the rooms are still being fitted out.

Electricians and painters were working throughout the building yesterday.

The building was designed and constructed by Southportbased Kryon0n which is also behind the luxury Brighton Grand apartments and Metro 88 tower. problems Park in is
