HOLIDAY WAKE UP CALL
“GROMMIE nats” have been learning to throw hoochie glides, heelside air raileys and a few scalefish grabs for good measure at the Gold Coast Wake Park this week.
Or, for those not down with the lingo, school kids have been having a ball trying as many flips and tricks as they can fit into holiday sessions at Daniel Watkins’ Oxenford wakeboarding park.
Having recovered from devastating floods in April, the park has been hosting 40 children in a three-day wakeboarding skills course.
They have been learning from the best – Mr Watkins is a former multiple wakeboarding world champion.
“It’s about getting the kids to love watersports,” Mr Watkins said.
“And they obviously do in the middle of winter.
“We’ve got kids at all different levels, from those having their very first try to someone getting pro.”
