AL’S LEMONS ARE PICK OF THE BUNCH

- SALLY COATES

ALAN Lovelock’s tree might grow lemons, but it’s produced a sweet crop.

The Molendinar man’s trusty lemon tree grew a cluster of lemons that resembled a bunch of grapes.

“I’m over 80 you know and I’ve never seen them all hang on like a bunch of grapes,” he said.

“The whole clump weighs in at just under half a kilogram.

“I took them to a lady who used to have a nursery at Tamborine and she’d never seen anything like it.

“I took them to Bunnings, where I bought the plant, and they all pulled out their cameras and started taking photos.”

Mr Lovelock said the tree produced high volumes of lemons along with giant lemons and strange lemon clumps.

“I’ve had it about seven years and I’ve never seen bigger lemons or lemons growing in a clump like this,” he said.

“Some of these lemons are just under a pound heavy.

“Last year we got about 90 lemons out of it and you can pick them all year round.

“We only used about 10 of them and gave the rest away. We’ve got no use for 90 lemons.”
