Early warning sign for election

- LEA EMERY

A BROADWATER candidate has been slapped over the wrist for incorrect election signage despite the state election not being expected for months.

Corflutes announcing LNP candidate David Crisafulli’s intention to run began popping up on Oxley Dr in Coombabah last week.

But they were up for less than 24 hours before the Department of Transport and Main Roads removed them.

“This particular signage did not meet TMR requirements,” a department spokesman said.

“The signs have since been removed.”

Transport and Main Roads policy states election signs must not be put up on state land “until the election has been officially announced”.

The policy has remained in place for a number of years.

Mr Crisafulli, who was the MP for Mundingburra between 2012 and 2015, said the signs were only temporary and would have been taken down early next week.

“I put them up ahead of a weekend of action,” he said.

He said he wanted to make sure people in the region knew an election was on the cards.

The state election is tipped to be called late this year or early next year with the most recent predictions suggesting a November poll.

Gold Coast City Council said they had not received any complaints about corflutes.
