CHANCE FOR MUGGLES TO SIP FROM WIZARD’S CUP

- SUZANNE SIMONOT

HERE’S cheers Muggles!

A magical concoction has joined the cocktail list at House of Brews, in Surfers Paradise, to mark the 20th anniversary of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books.

The whimsical Potterthemed Platform 9¾ is named in honour of the railway stop at King’s Cross station, in London, visible only to students boarding the Hogwarts Express to the famed Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The potion mixes alcoholic ginger beer and butterscotch schnapps (a nod to the Butterbeer wizarding beverage in the books), Fireball lemon whiskey (in honour of Firewhiskey, the preferred tipple of adult witches and wizards trying to win a dragon over a hand of cards at the Hog’s Head pub), an egg white and whipped cream with cinnamon on top.

The hubble bubble brews are decorated with a Quidditch-inspired winged Snitch – a golden ball (a Ferrero Rocher) and yellow feathers.

The drinks are served on their own platforms with a luggage trolley disappearing into a cloud of dry ice.

Bar manager HarryDavies said the Platform 9¾ had already proven popular, with more than 120 of the lush libations sold on Friday and Saturday alone.

Sadly, while Harry Potter and his cohorts walk through a brick wall between platforms 9 and 10 to catch their train to school, we’re reliably informed imbibing a $22 Platform 9¾ won’t bestow we mere Muggles with magical abilities.
