Bus crash kills nine

LIMA: A double-decker tour bus has lost control and rolled over on a narrow road in the Peruvian capital Lima, killing at least nine people and injuring 25. Firefighter Cesar Suito says a Canadian and a Chilean were among the injured in Sunday night’s crash about 2km from Lima’s presidential palace. A health official says the bus was driving on the San Cristobal hill to give passengers panoramic views of the city.

Priest pulls gun

RALEIGH: The rector of an Episcopal church in North Carolina is facing criminal charges in Florida after police say he pointed a gun at another vehicle in an apparent road rage incident. Media reports say 35year-old Reverend William Rian Adams is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Martin County, Florida records show he was released from jail on $15,000 bail.

State troopers say a pick-up truck driver was closely following a Corvette on Florida’s Turnpike and tried to pass the car when its driver pointed a handgun at him. Troopers then stopped Adams in the Corvette.

Bear attacks teen

DENVER: A teen staffer at a Colorado camp fought off a bear after waking up Sunday to find the animal biting his head and trying to drag him away. The 19year-old woke up about 4am to a “crunching sound” with his head inside the mouth of the bear, which was trying to pull him out of his sleeping bag as he slept outside at Glacier View Ranch 77km northwest of Denver, Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill said. The teen punched and hit it and other staffers who were sleeping nearby yelled and swatted at the bear, which eventually left, she said.

Quake shakes

MANILA: A 5.9-magnitude earthquake has shaken the central Philippines without any significant casualties or property damage being reported, four days after another earthquake left two dead and 72 wounded. The quake was located in Leyte province.
