AQUINAS College, a breeding ground for strong performers and actors, has shown education is not just in the classroom.

The college is staging the musical Footloose at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on July 27 and 28.

With a strong involvement of more than 200 students and a large number of staff volunteering their time, this musical is set for success.

Footloose is a drama and comedy musical about Ren McCormack, a teenager from Chicago moving to the small town of Bomont with his mother after his father abandons them.

Through his new life in Bomont, he tries to convince the Reverend Shaw to allow local teenagers to dance, while also helping the town heal from tragedies of the past.

The Aquinas College curriculum leader of performing arts and performance Arthur Henry has expressed great enthusiasm for this production during the preparations and rehearsals.

“I am so excited by the enthusiasm and talent of the amazing cast, crew and support team of this college musical,” Mr Henry said.

“I can’t wait for opening night at The Arts Centre Gold Coast where this show will

hopefully be the best production of Footloose ever seen in the southern hemisphere.”

The time and effort put into the production by the students and staff is incredible.

There have been rehearsals after school and on weekends and holidays.

The different behind-the scenes tasks in the making of Footloose include props, makeup, costumes, acting, dancing, music, backstage, programs and ticketing.

Year 12 cast member Stefan Vrbanjac said participating in the musical had been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“It allows everyone to broaden their horizon in terms of friendship, social skills and confidence,” Stefan said.

“To anyone who is interested in being part of the musical, I would highly recommend it as what you see on stage is only the tip of the iceberg of the fun and learning involved.”

The magic of involvement, the feeling students and staff have knowing they have helped build and construct a truly magical event, is exhilarating and can be seen already.

The experience alone is incredible with the meeting of new people, working in new environments and being part of a fabulous team.
