MAYORESS Ruth Tate has spent her first full day at home after she suffered a severe heart attack in Singapore last month.

Mrs Tate, who returned to the Gold Coast last week, was released from a private hospital late on Monday afternoon.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate told a radio station yesterday he was not the only one happy to welcome Mrs Tate back into the family home. The couple’s dogs were also excited.

“They went nuts,” Cr Tate said. “They must have the sixth sense. Couldn’t leave her alone, following her everywhere.”

Cr Tate said the incident had made him reset his priorities. “The main thing you have to look at is your blessings.

“Even that night when I was looking at her at 3am when they were doing those tests, the little thoughts was ‘did I tell her I love her that day’.”

Mrs Tate has a long road to recovery following the heart attack which left her in an induced coma for three days in Singapore.

Cr Tate had sat vigil by her bedside until Mrs Tate was well enough to return to the Gold Coast last Thursday.

The pair were minutes away from boarding a flight to Rome when Mrs Tate fell to the ground.

The Mayor and three bystanders performed CPR for 25 minutes before emergency services arrived with a defibrillator.

The paramedics shocked Mrs Tate seven times before reviving her.

Since their return Cr Tate has been urging people to learn first aid.
