Tigers in clear over count issue

-

THE weekend QAFL player head count at Salk Oval has been officially declared a nonevent by the competition’s watchdogs.

A clash between premiers Labrador and losing 2016 grand finalists Palm BeachCurrumbin was held up before the start of the third quarter when home team players alerted match umpires to the fact the Tigers had one too many players on the field.

Umpires called Labrador players together for a headcount and a free kick was awarded to PBC at centre halfforward for the breach.

Labrador players were told they would be stripped of their half-time score of 6.5 (41) although the scoreboard was not changed to zero points.

The official line then became that the final score – 15.13 (103) to 8.7 (55) – would stand until the matter was investigated on Monday by the QAFL, acting on reports from the match officials.

Labrador still won the game after outscoring the Lions by 9.8 to 4.3 after the big break.

“We have been told that the incident was an interchange breach because it was determined that play had not started,” Labrador football manager Luke Black said.

But in that case why was a free kick awarded to PBC?
