Wilson has to delay game 150 for a week
FORMER Australian Kookaburras player Jason Wilson will miss celebrating his 150th Brisbane Hockey League game on home turf.
Wilson was due to bring up his personal milestone against Bulimba at Keith Hunt Park this weekend but celebrations of another kind – his teammate Adam Imer’s wedding – means the occasion has been put back a week.
Instead, the Wilson milestone is now due on July 22 away to Pine Rivers-St Andrews.
Wilson scored four goals for Labrador in an 8-1 rout of Northern Suburbs last weekend at the State Hockey Centre and is in vintage form.
Coincidently, Wilson’s BHL debut came in 2002 when he joined Bulimba.
Brazilian Olympics team member Imer’s wedding will severely deplete the Tigerstix for the Bulimba engagement with Imer, Wilson, Craig Bigham and coach Simon Martin all attending the nuptials.
Compounding Labrador’s woes are the fact they have five players away at the under-21 national titles, Dylan Wotherspoon with Kookaburras duties and Brent Livermore coaching NSW at the under-21s.
“That’s 11 we have out for the weekend,” Martin said.
“And it’s not that we’re losing 11 second graders.
“It would have been nice for Jason to get the milestone at home – and I guess it would have been even better for the coach, me, to have been there as well.”
