A MAN acccused of stealing a car, containing a dog, at knifepoint has been denied bail.

Adam Alfred Taylor, 32, was committed to stand trial in the Southport District Court Court at a date yet to be set over the carjacking outside an Indian restaurant on Days Rd, at Upper Coomera, on June 18.

Defence lawyer Sam Rigby told the court his client was expected to plead guilty to the offences.

Following the committal hearing in the Southport Magistrates Court, he applied for bail but it was denied.

The court heard Taylor, a recovering alcoholic, held a 30cm kitchen knife to the owner of the car and said “give me your (expletive) keys”.

Her dog was in the car at the time but was rescued before Taylor drove off.

The court heard Taylor, who was on bail for a boiler room fraud to the tune of $1.5 million at the time, allegedly blew a blood alcohol reading of .363 – more than seven times the legal limit to drive – when arrested by police.

After hearing Taylor had previously breached bail on several occasions, Magistrate John Costanzo remanded him in custody, saying: “The history demonstrates the character of the man”.

He is expected to be sentenced at a date yet to be set.
