Titan tackles reno show

- SUZANNE SIMONOT suzanne.simonot@news.com.au

A GOLD Coast Titans foundation player will trade footy boots for work boots on the new series of The Block.

Former Palm Beach High School student Clint Amos and his wife of five years, Hannah, will represent Queensland when the hit renovation series returns to Channel 9 on Sunday, July 30.

The couple are parents to two young children – Finn, 5, and Poppy, 3.

Originally from Ballina in northern NSW, Amos played for the North Queensland Cowboys and the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL, primarily as a hooker.

Amos launched his career playing junior football for the Burleigh Bears before making his first-grade debut with the Cowboys in 2006.

Amos joined the Titans for their inaugural season in 2007, before falling out of the squad in 2008 when Nathan Friend became preferred hooker.

He returned to the Cowboys in 2009 on a two-year deal and played for the Northern Pride in the 2011 Queensland Cup before he retired from playing to become the Cowboys’ business development manager.

In a break from Block tradition, the new season will ask five couples to restore and extend five heritage homes sitting side-by-side on 470sq m suburban blocks in the same street.

The contestants will hit the ground running, delivering their first room in 48 hours, with the winner of that challenge to get first choice of which house they want to renovate for the rest of the competition.

The contestants will have to add extensions including a three-car garage and a selfcontained studio apartment, an upstairs master suite and open plan living to the homes and create outdoor entertaining areas.

Clint, 33, and Hanna, 31, compete against Melbourne couples Josh, 28, and Elyse, 24, and husband and wife of 18 years Jason 46, and Sarah, 45; best mates Sticks, 31, and Wombat, 38, from South Coast, NSW; and married couple Ronnie, 41, and Georgia, 33, from Perth.
