Cochlear’s China call

-

BIONIC ear maker Cochlear is expanding its global manufacturing capacity with a new $50 million facility in China.

The company says the hearing products to be made at the Chinese factory, at Chengdu in Sichuan province, were intended for China and emerging markets.

It will have the capacity to increase Cochlear’s global implant production by about half.

“Cochlear has been building its presence in China for more than 20 years and this investment recognises the importance of our business in China and will support the future growth of our emerging markets business,” Cochlear chief Chris Smith said.

The group said production should start in four years.
