WHINCUP’S BUSINESS ON FAST TRACK TO SUCCESS

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

JAMIE Whincup’s burgeoning business is taking flight, with the Supercars legend planning to add to his portfolio in the next 12 months.

The Gold Coast driver on Saturday celebrated the oneyear anniversary of his adjoining LOCA Café and Washed for Cars businesses at Hope Island in style.

The red carpet was rolled out and Red Bull DJs and a water drop mascot joined Whincup on site for a day of giving back to the community that has supported him.

“We certainly jumped in the deep end 12 months ago,” Whincup said. “Any time you start a new business you’ve always got that risk but we’ve smashed through all of our expectations.”

He is now looking to replicate the model elsewhere in Australia. “We feel we’re in a position now where we can start repeating it,” he said.

The 34-year-old’s business has not detracted from his pursuit of a record seventh Supercars title. The Red Bull Holden Racing Team ace this month chalked up a win to move within six points of the championship lead.

“Racing hasn’t taken a hit at all – certainly my social life has – but I have been really proud of what we have been able to achieve.”
