FRIDAY August 25 is Daffodil Day, a day when 800,000 fresh daffodils will bloom with hope for cancer patients across Queensland.

Daffodil Day is dedicated to raising funds and saving lives, but we desperately need your help to make it a success. Today we’re asking you to help us reach our target of 2000 volunteers who want to show they care for someone in their life impacted by cancer, by helping us to sell daffodils and gather donations.

Queenslanders can select from more than 280 locations to volunteer across the state.

Whether you can volunteer for a few hours, or the whole day, your efforts will make a significant difference in our race to raise $1.4 million in the fight against cancer.

Register now via daffodilday.com.au/volunteer or call us on 1300 65 65 85.

Thank you for empowering us to continue our work for all Queenslanders, all cancers. Together we can beat this dreaded disease.

CHRIS MCMILLAN CEO, CANCER COUNCIL QUEENSLAND

MY problem along with many other small to medium diesel fuel users is the great rip-off that is occurring at fuel pumps all over the city and country. I am very annoyed at being charged 15 to 20 cents per litre above the price of ULP knowing this pricing is based on oil company figures proved to be incorrect.

Diesel is the first fuel out of the refining process and therefore the cheapest to produce, and with many vehicles able to pass high Euro standards is a clean fuel for the atmosphere. Last week Caltex announced a higher profit boosted by diesel sales, no doubt other companies are reaping rewards as well. We all know the government subsidises major fuel users, but why are small to medium users paying for this gift supposedly to keep transport costs down? Why are ACCC field officers or staff not noticing the huge price difference between ULP and diesel, don’t they ever drive into a servo, and why, as consumer protectors isn’t the ACCC jumping on this blatant money grab, or is the ACCC just another government sponsored money pit? MR Turnbull has two options to save his leadership. He could call a leadership spill and cement his position over potential challengers such as Dutton, Bishop and Morrison. I feel he would win.

Secondly, he could crash or crash through by challenging the hard right head on in his party and implementing policies he really believes in such as renewable energy, SSM, climate change and changes to negative gearing.

Using the massive budget deficit as a valid reason, he could close Manus and Nauru which is costing $500,000 per refugee and process the refugees in Australia which would result in saving billions. The boats would not return as long as the turn-back policy is maintained.

Actions speak louder than words if you want your polling to improve Malcolm.
