Man hit by car at Miami fights for life

A pedestrian hit by a car at Miami yesterday has been fighting for life while police investigat­e. The Forensic Crash Unit is on scene today after the 32-year-old was run over on the southbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway just after 1.30am. He has serious head injuries and was in to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Local drug syndicate closed down by police

Police have shut down a drug syndicate after arresting 12 people on 76 charges on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Logan. Yesterday federal and state police raided eight addresses across south east Queensland, including one in Mermaid Waters. In police footage of the Gold Coast raid, plastic bags filled with a white powder can be seen.

Nic’s amazing swimsuit body at 50

Nicole Kidman has posed for a magazine cover in a revealing one-piece red swimsuit, admitting the pictures were too “crazy” to publish. “I thought about this shoot afterwards. I was like, “what was I doing? I lost my mind! How are the shots? Do they look crazy?” Nicole is quoted as saying on the magazine’s Instagram. The one-piece had crisscross lacing up the front.

Although rates from silicosis are dropping globally, Australian medical and legal experts are alarmed to note a recent spike in new cases, which they attribute to occupation­al exposure (often by tradies) to engineered or artificial stone products often used for kitchen benchtops.
