Perry chasing World Cup perfection

-

ELLYSE Perry is one of the form players of the World Cup but feels her perfect game is still ahead as Australia begins preparations for its semi-final against India on Thursday.

Perry has recorded five straight half-centuries, her most recent a 55 in Saturday’s 59-run win over South Africa.

However the all-rounder was disappointed with her dismissal and felt she should have batted out the innings.

Perry was caught at mid-on with just under 10 overs left.

While Australia went on to post 269, they had been tracking for 300-plus throughout the opening innings.

Five wickets fell in eight overs from when Perry was caught and Australia was all out with nine balls to go.

“It was really crucial for one of our set batters to stay in to the end, right to the 50 overs and I think that responsibility was probably largely on me because I was in and hitting the ball OK,” said Perry, who also took 2-47 with the ball and player of the match honours.

“To get out was really frustrating, that’s probably why we missed out on pushing on and getting close to 300.

“That’s going to be really crucial in the last couple of matches, hopefully making the final and with the semi-final coming up, just being able to put more pressure on sides while we can is important.”
