- RYAN KEEN

THE Chinese company behind the northern Gold Coast’s first luxury hotel in 30 years is eyeing more developments in the city.

Golden Horse yesterday signed an agreement with Australia’s largest hotel operator AccorHotels to manage its planned 150-room, five-star hotel resort to be built overlooking the Links Hope Island Golf Club.

Golden Horse director Ellen Guan said the $60 million project would see a refurbishment of The Links clubhouse plus a new 300-person conference centre, spa and wellness retreat, destination restaurant, bars and lagoon pool. Hong Kong-based Golden Horse aims to open the hotel in 2019.

“We believe we will create a new exciting destination for Gold Coast residents, for business travellers and tourists from all over the world,” Ms Guan said.

Golden Horse was “absolutely” interested in more pro- jects on the Gold Coast, she said.

“We are a property developer interested in residential and commercial development. The Gold Coast is a fantastic place to invest and live.”

Accor will manage The Links hotel under its recently acquired European-styled Swissotel brand, just the second in Australia.
