1 Crash kills pilgrims
SRINAGAR: At least 16 Hindu pilgrims were killed and 27 injured when their bus skidded off a mountain road and fell into a gorge in Indian Kashmir. The bus was heading towards Srinagar, the state capital on Sunday, when it veered off the road, a police superintendent said. Hundreds of thousands of Hindus visit the Amarnath Cave deep in the Himalayas every July and August.
2 Camilla turns 70
LONDON: A double portrait of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall has been released to mark Camilla’s 70th birthday. Charles and Camilla have been captured by celebrity photographer Mario Testino looking relaxed, happy and smiling. The royal couple were photographed in May in the morning room at Clarence House. In the photographic portrait the Duchess is wearing a navy blue dress coat with white embroidery by Fiona Clare. The Prince of Wales is wearing a suit, shirt and tie.
Testino paid tribute to the Duchess, who celebrated her 70th birthday yesterday, by describing her as a “beautiful person”. He was Diana, Princess of Wales’s favourite photographer.
3 Girls beat Trump
WASHINGTON: A robotics team of six high school girls from Afghanistan is attending an international competition in Washington, after clearing visa obstacles that prompted intervention from President Donald Trump. The team was the first to be introduced at an opening ceremony yesterday for the three-day competition. They will compete against entrants from more than 150 countries in the FIRST Global Challenge. It’s the first annual robotics contest aimed to encourage youths to pursue math and science careers. The team was twice rejected for US visas.

CARACAS: Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans lined up across the country and in expatriate communities worldwide yesterday to vote in a symbolic rejection of President Nicolas Maduro’s plan to rewrite the constitution, a proposal that’s raising tensions in a nation battered by shortages and antigovernment protests.
A woman, 61, was killed and four people wounded in shooting that erupted after Government supporters on motorcycles swarmed an opposition polling site in a church in the Catia neighbourhood of Caracas. The opposition mayor of the Caracas borough of Sucre, Carlos Ocariz, said pro-government paramilitary groups attacked voters outside the Our Lady of Carmen Church.
