City’s finals fantasy as hopes of a treble soar

- TERRY WILSON

GOLD Coast City have wrapped up a spot in the NPL Queensland soccer semi-finals as they embark on a chase for three different titles.

A 2-2 draw against Northern Fury over the weekend cemented City’s top spot on standings, three points ahead of Brisbane Strikers.

Should City go on to win the NPL minor premiership they would qualify for a shot at the NPL finals series, open to the champions of the eight different national competitions.

Already the Queensland qualifiers have been handed an away match against the Tasmanian champions.

In 2014, playing as Palm Beach, City, they made it to the national series semi-finals where they bowed out to NSW club Weston Workers.

Also coming up for City is a FFA Cup round of 32 clash with Perth’s Western Knights.

This match will be on Wednesday, August 2, at Duncan McKenna Field in Palm Beach.

Meanwhile, City’s Round 19 match in the NPL, against Brisbane Roar Youth, has been moved forward to this Saturday night at Duncan McKenna Field (6.30pm start).
