SMUG PUG IS A REAL CHARACTER

- TIM WILLIAMS For details, go to greataussiestories.com.au

HE’S naughty, cunning and won’t fess up to what he’s done – which makes the star of the Pig the Pug books just like the real thing.

“He’s actually not far off being a true pug,” longtime breeder Donna McClarty says.

“He’s goofy, a clown. Pugs are known to be the clowns of the dog world.

“They definitely are naughty. I’ve got one eight-week-old at the moment and he’s the naughtiest I’ve ever had.”

Two of Aaron Blabey’s Pig the Pug books are in the

Bulletin’s The Great Australian Storybook Collection, starting this weekend.

In Pig the Fibber, the title character tries to shift the blame for all his misdeeds onto Trevor the sausage dog.

Ms McClarty, who also runs Klip’n’Kleen K9, says the books have been good for the breeding side of her business.

“Sometimes I do get emails from people saying ‘I’ve got all the Pig the Pug books and I love pugs and I want one of my own’.”

Readers can collect a free copy of Possum Magic and collector’s case with the

Bulletin’s Great Australian Storybook collection, starting this Sunday in the Sunday Mail.

Collect all 15 storybooks for $2.30 each with a daily token from the newspaper.
