Less bread, more steak
VEGETARIANS who shun red meat for the health benefits might be better off tucking into a steak and eating less bread, a study has found.
Those vegetarians who consume white bread, pasta, chips and sweets along with their salad and veges had a higher risk of heart problems than people who ate a moderate amount of meat.
US scientists found those with the lowest risk of heart disease ate a veggie diet based on healthy wholegrains, fruit and greens.
But the most risky diet also refrained from meat but included white bread, pasta, rice and biscuits.
