Killer cladding confirmed at hospital

-

MORE than a dozen firefighters have been put on alert for any fire at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital as it was confirmed that combustible cladding had been used on the building.

Despite the fire risk, the State Government won’t immediately rip out the aluminium composite cladding instead choosing to wait for more testing to be done to find out the best way to fix the sixstorey hospital.

The testing will include attaching the material to a building to find out how it reacts if it were to catch fire.

The State Government did an audit of buildings built between 1994 and 2004 after the deadly Grenfell Tower fire in London which claimed at least 79 lives.

Despite the initial results, the State Government is confident the hospital would not pose the same risk as the London tragedy.
