JEWEL HOTEL UNVEILS ITS BALLROOM GLITZ

- KATHLEEN SKENE

THE Gold Coast’s newest grand ballroom aims to bring back the over-the-top glitz of special events in the beachside city.

Jewel’s Wanda Vista Hotel ballroom will feature a high wavy glass-beaded ceiling – the concrete structure of which was poured this week.

Wanda Ridong Director Baron Li hoped the ballroom would host some of the city’s most important milestone events.

“The Wanda Vista ballrooms are renowned in China and are highly sought after for weddings in particular because they are so theatrical and exaggerated, and we are positioning Australia’s first one, here at Jewel, to be just as unrestrained in its style and design. The ballroom will be 10 metres high, with a wave-like chandelier ceiling up to two metres in height.

“It will seat around 450 guests for a banquet-style function. However, guests will be able to enjoy pre-dinner festivities across the extensive podium that links the three towers at level two, with natural sea breezes and million-dollar view out to sea.”

The Chinese funding partner of the project last week agreed to sell 77 of its Wanda Hotels – but the Broadbeach project is out of scope as it’s owned by Australian company Wanda Ridong. The hotel is scheduled to launch in early 2019.
