Quake hits Fukushima
A MODERATELY strong earthquake struck off the coast of Japan’s Fukushima yesterday but no fresh damage to its crippled nuclear power plant was reported and there was no risk of a tsunami, officials said.
The 5.8-magnitude quake hit a day after an underwater robot entered a badly damaged reactor at Fukushima, capturing images of the harsh impact of its meltdown.
But plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co said the images contain no obvious sign of the melted nuclear fuel that researchers hope to find.
