YOU KNOW IT’S WINTER ON THE COAST WHEN...

... even the Meter Maids are covering up. Jenny Blankenstein and Taila Pereiva reached for their jackets in Surfers Paradise yesterday and they’ll need them again today with a forecast morning temperature of 8C, rising to 20C.

IN New England, leaves changing colour signifies the onset of autumn.

On the Gold Coast, Meter Maids rugging up is a sure sign we’re in the depths of a subtropical winter.

The tourism ambassadors will need their jackets again today after a forecast low of 8C this morning, only slightly warmer than the coldest temperature recorded this year, 7.8C on July 7. Weatherzone forecaster Graeme Britton said frost and 1C conditions were expected further west at Beaudesert.

“There has been a cold push across the state but by Monday it is expected to warm up to 24C or 25C so there won’t be much of a need to wear jumpers during the day,” he said.

Sunny conditions are also expected.
