SURFERS FLOOD BEACHES WHILE BIG BREAKS ROLL IN

-

BIG surf will continue to batter the Gold Coast today before dropping to glassy conditions early tomorrow.

Massive waves of up to 2m combined with clear, sunny skies to create an absolute surfer’s paradise on the southern beaches yesterday.

Board riders made the most of the breaks with dozens in the line-up at Snapper Rocks and Duranbah.

Today, waves of about 1m will break along the Coast, the last of the big swells brought about by a storm cell that hit New Zealand over the weekend.

Weatherzone Meteorologist Craig McIntosh said the severe weather across the ditch had brought large swells to the entire east coast of Australia.

“It’s all about the high pressure on the Gold Coast,” he said.

“The lingering high pressure system is giving … warmer-than-usual days, by about 3C, and cooler-thanusual nights, by about 2C.

“The entire week will be clear, with tops of 23C and lows of about 8C. There is a small chance of a shower on Friday or Saturday, but it will only be light if it eventuates.”
