PLAYER OF THE DAY

Branden Grace – the South African created golf history with the first-ever 62 at a major championship.

ROUND OF THE DAY

Grace’s historic eight-underpar effort vaulted the 29-year- old from equal 40th to a tie for fifth entering the Sunday stretch.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Sometimes it helps not knowing these things.” – Grace insisting he had no idea he had entered the record books.

STAT OF THE DAY

Thirty-one men have shot 63 at a major but Grace is the first to sign for a 62 in 442 of golf’s biggest events stretching back to the first Open in 1860.

SHOT OF THE DAY

American Rickie Fowler went within centimetres of hitting a hole-in-one albatross after thrilling the gallery with his incredible drive on the 316m par-four fifth.

FLOP OF THE DAY

Adam Scott (pictured) had been the leading Australian and full of hope at the halfway mark but never got going in a disappointing even-par 70 that left the former world No.1 a distant 14 shots off the pace.

HOW THE AUSSIES FARED

Jason Day and Scott Hend shared the clubhouse lead early after posting impressive five-under 65s but entered the final round 11 behind American leader Jordan Spieth. Marc Leishman (66) was a further stroke back behind, with Andrew Dodt (69) alongside Scott. Aaron Baddeley (72) was 17 adrift.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY

Spieth was three clear of countryman Matt Kuchar and 18 holes away from adding an Open win to his 2015 Masters and US Open triumphs. But he will have golf’s biggest names, including world No.1 Dustin Johnson, No.2 Hideki Matsuyama and defending champion Henrik Stenson trying to run him down.
