No winners in pay war

-

IN a sentence, cricket’s ongoing pay war.

You know, the one that started straight after the Boer War?

It seems like a century ago we started talking about whether those who hit red globes with wooden planks should get a bigger slice of the pie from officials.

Undeniably, it’s a big issue for those who rightfully want to know where their next pay packet is coming from.

Yet the public relations war waged by both teams has long been lost.

Why? Because we no longer feel sympathy. Or anger. Or anything. Complete and utter apathy is the over-riding emotion from punters who now just want a game to be played.
