Swan Lake returns to council stage

A LAST-ditch effort to save Black Swan Lake at the Gold Coast Turf Club, Bundall, will be launched today at the Gold Coast City Council meeting.

Nerang councillor Peter Young plans to lodge a motion to stop the lake being filled in due to potential problems with development application to fill the lake.

“That council seeks independent legal advice as to the accuracy and suitability and completeness of material submitted by Cardno (Qld) Pty Ltd described as ‘Application for OPW Change to Ground Level 6 Goldmarket Drive Bundall’, dated 24 November 2016, with specific regard to the proposal having been submitted and dealt with as Exempt development,” the draft resolution reads.

The filling of Black Swan Lake has polarised parts of the community since the council made the decision in November last year.

The lake has remained untouched since then while the turf club completes the development process to have the water body filled.

The decision has also caused controversy in council with Mayor Tom Tate refusing to call the “borrow pit” a lake during debate about whether it would be filled.
