Brave police honoured

GOLD Coast police officers have been awarded for bravery ,including their involvemen­t in the armed holdup that led to the death of Damien Leeding.

In total the Royal Humane Society of Australasi­a issued seven silver medals, 14 bronze medals and eight certificat­es to Queensland police last Friday.

Gold Coast officers were recognised for their part in saving people from drowning and rescuing a suicidal man.

Award for attending the rescue of two women in the surf at Surfers Paradise Beach on January 4, 2013:

Former Senior Constable Ammon Hapi (bronze medal), Constable Chance Lima (bronze medal).

Attempting to rescue a suicidal man at Elanora on February 14, 2012:

Senior Constable Emily Greenbury (Certificat­e of Merit), Constable Clint Du Sart (Certificat­e of Merit), Senior Constable Jason Gosling (bronze medal), Senior Constable Adrian Browning (bronze medal).

Attending the rescue of a the late D/S/Con Damian Leeding and patrons of the Pacific Pines Tavern on May 29, 2011:

Senior Constable Wayne Algie (silver medal), Constable Kelly Gephart (silver medal), Constable Melanie Godfrey (silver medal), Sergeant Nicole Jackson (silver medal), Senior Sergeant Brett MacGibbon (silver medal).
