MARITIMO TO SELL $500K SUPERBOATS TO PUBLIC
A GOLD Coast boat manufacturer with a proud offshore boat racing history is powering ahead on and off the water.
Maritimo’s offshore superboat team is leading the Australian championships after four of 10 events while the manufacturing team is gearing up to produce race boats for sale.
Gunning for its 15th national title, Maritimo founder Bill Barry-Cotter said the manufacturing arm had decided to produce an offshore superboat for general sale about once every three months.
The speed machines which can clock more than 200km/h when racing will be priced about $500,000.
“The first one will be ready in about a month but we’ll keep that. Then we’ll do one every three months,” Mr Barry-Cotter said.
“There is demand here and overseas. They are a fast boat and the owners can go offshore and play around and not get locked up for it like they would if they were in a car.”
Mr Barry-Cotter, who won multiple Australian championships himself, has passed the baton to son Tom who is joined by Steve Jellick in this year’s race team.
The pair who picked up a first and runner-up result at the weekend in Bowen are leading their Supercat Extreme class and coming second overall.
