GOLD COAST MUM’S BUSINESS IS FLYING HIGH

- STEPHANIE BENNETT

MUM-OF-THREE Samantha Cardone took one of life’s most tricky scenarios and transformed it into a business opportunity.

While travelling on a plane with her three toddlers – including twins – she had a light bulb moment and noticed how much space was unused in front of the kids’ seats.

“Knowing that they are not allowed to sleep on the floor, I thought there had to be a way to utilise the space and help the kids sleep,” she said.

“I loved travelling, but flying with three kids was a nightmare. I no longer dreamt about holidays; I secretly dreaded them.”

Gold Coast-based Ms Cardone said she became hooked on the idea and after extensive researching – and deciding she could create a better product herself – Plane Pal was born.

The inflatable pillow products allows kids to stretch out and sleep while flying.

The company’s online store was launched at the beginning of this year and Ms Cardone said she has been overwhelmed by the response – though recently Qantas and Jetstar announced they had banned the product.

In contrast, Singapore Airlines has released an official policy that stated kids travel products, such as Plane Pal, were approved as long as safety guidelines were followed. “We are thrilled that many major international airlines accept our product,” Ms Cardone said.

“Their commitment to improving family travel is really admirable and we have found that customers will choose Singapore Airlines over other airlines, even if they pay a little more to fly with them.”

Ms Cardone said two new products were on the cards for this year.
