Assange to rally Gold Coast activists
WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange will deliver a keynote address to disrupters and provocateurs when they converge on the Gold Coast in September to discuss the future of democracy.
Assange will be beamed into The Arts Centre Gold Coast via video link from the Ecuadorean Embassy in London when he speaks to delegates at the 2970° The Boiling Point: Practising Democracy event from September 7-9.
Curator David Pledger said the gathering of disrupters, thinkers, provocateurs and activists was an alchemy of ideas and art designed to motivate transformational change.
“There is no bigger conversation today than the transformation of our civil society as it contends with fierce challenges to our democratic system,” he said.
“This event will give people the opportunity to listen to some smart people suggest provocative ideas for how we might make a future we want to live in.”
Robotic, android and humanoid expert Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro, from Osaka University, author and political commentator Jamila Rizvi and Gold Coast indigenous cultural leader Kyle Slabb will also deliver keynote addresses at the event.
