ACCOUNTANT PUMPED TO BE TURNING 40

- DWAYNE GRANT

MOST blokes mark their 40th birthdays with a boozy party or even hiding from the world.

Joey Young will celebrate his by trying to smash out a world-record 2800 push-ups in an hour.

“I’ll never be the fastest man in the world but with a little work, this is one record within my reach,” said the Benowa father of two, who has registered the bid with Guinness World Records.

The challenge facing him on September 29 is not for the weak of heart, let alone the weak of chest and bicep.

Under the scrutiny of video cameras, two accredited personal trainers and an official counter, Young will have to average 46 push-ups every minute for an hour.

Only two years ago, a West Australian set the world record at 2200 pushups in an hour. Then, last November, a Swiss raised the bar to 2390.

“I thought I had that covered but in May the bloke from WA did 2682,” said Young, a director at accounting firm Cordner Advisory.

“But I’ve lifted my training and am quietly confident.”

Young will use the challenge to raise funds for people with muscle degenerative disease Friedreich Ataxia
