Concerns about school’s repair works
The Education Department is being urged to check its repair work for ageing demountable buildings at a Gold Coast primary school. LNP Broadwater candidate David Crisafulli and parents have raised concerns about the safety of repaired classrooms at Coombabah State school. A building industry operator has found further repairs were need to secure the demountables’ ceilings.
Pat Rafter’s rift with controversial players
Tennis great Pat Rafter has given a radio interview where he revealed difficulties he faced while being Davis Cup captain. During his tenure, he oversaw the development of controversial players such as Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios. But Rafter admits he just couldn’t connect. “I realised I had no impact on these guys whatsoever and they couldn’t relate to me and I couldn’t relate to them,” Rafter said during his subdued interview on KIIS FM on Monday.
Evandale Lake closed indefinitely
The Gold Coast City Council is still making a decision about when to reopen Evandale Lake after a stonefish was spotted in the water last week. Orange barriers still remain around the lake while council decides its future after divers uncovered another problem while searching for the potentially deadly stonefish. “The lake remains closed until council decides if it will undertake some refurbishment works,” a council spokesman said.
