Drought break all about consistency

-

MELBOURNE must focus on playing consistent football before it can think about breaking an 11-year finals drought, according to polished midfielder Dom Tyson.

The Demons need at least two wins after bullying Port Adelaide at the MCG last week.

But Tyson conceded the prospect of playing in a final for the first time in his AFL career had crossed his mind.

“I guess in the back of your mind you start thinking about it, like I’m excited,” he said.

“There’s that little bit in the back of your mind, but it’s just such an even comp, the minute you look too far ahead you do get stung.

“One week you’re nearly in the four and the next week you’re nearly out of the eight, so you honestly cannot look too far ahead.”

Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn (ankle) remains in doubt for Saturday’s game against North Melbourne in Hobart, while Demons co-captain Nathan Jones is likely to miss his sixth game with a quadriceps strain.

Reliable defender Neville Jetta (ankle) left training early yesterday after accidentally standing on a stray football.
