HOW TO UPSET THE COUNCIL IN PUBLIC PARKS

-

BE LOUD

ENJOY having a few tunes playing at your barbecue? Don’t get caught out using a loudspeaker because that’s a big no-no. Unless authorised, you can face a fine for using a megaphone, sound amplifier, radio, loudspeaker or any means of mechanically, electrically or artificially increasing sound.

HIT A GOLF BALL

KEEN for some chipping practice? Avoid your local park because hitting golf balls is a banned activity. Unless authorised, you also cannot take part in organised sport activities of local, state or national significance. Niche sports including model aircraft and petrol powered model boats are banned too.

GATHER IN BIG NUMBERS

UNLESS given a permit, it is illegal to hold a social gathering, meeting or religious service of more than 50 people. A council spokesman confirmed these permits are often issued to groups. Busking, performance and public entertainment are also banned.

FEED THE BIRDS

THE feeding of, or interference with non-domestic animals and plants are covered by several regulations in Local Law No. 9. According to it, scientific research of a plant or animal is banned, as is interfering with any turf, sand, clary soil or other material. Lawful fishing or removing injured animals to sanctuaries is excluded.

TAKE A DIP

IF you are feeling hot this summer, don’t think about taking a dip – bathing in an ornamental pond or lake is banned. Also avoid storing stolen goods and inserting an object other than coins or tokens of the correct denomination into meter receptacles.
