Driverless cars closer
TELSTRA says it has successfully tested mobile technology that lets cars interact directly with the mobile phones of cyclists and pedestrians.
The trial sets the foundation for driverless vehicles on Australian roads, Telstra chief technology officer Hakan Eriksson says. He said the vehicle-to-pedestrian technology was a step towards safer roads.
“This is the first time V2P technology has been trialled in Australia on a 4G network, and is an important step on the journey to fully-autonomous vehicles on Australian roads,” Mr Eriksson said.
