Disappointed Roberts feels ‘stuffed around’

-

The Titans have made Roberts an offer that was rejected by the 26-year-old and his management, although he is still negotiating with the club and the Coast have not closed the door on retaining him.

“I don’t know,” a genuinely torn Roberts said when asked whether he thought he would be at the club next year.

“I’m sure we’ll talk this week and see if we can get something done but if not, then I’ve just got to do the best for my family.

“I spoke to (the Titans) the first time and they sent through an offer that I didn’t take aboard, it wasn’t where I wanted it for me to stay.

“I’ve got options out there and I’m just going to go back and talk to the family and make sure that they’re the right choice for me and my family.”

Roberts admitted he had been disappointed at how the process had been handled.

“It is very disappointing. They’ve sort of stuffed me around a little bit,” he said.

“I’m just trying to concentrate on my footy and try to let it take care of itself but obviously nothing’s getting done yet.

“The respect’s still there, it’s just the way that this has been handled.

“We (were) expected to come last, last year and we made the eight.

“I was told that if we go good, there’ll be something there and there wasn’t.”

Roberts says he was told he had to play for his spot again this season and believes he has done all he can to earn another deal.

“There’s been that many injuries this year and I’ve had to fill some roles that are not my preferred position and I thought I did that to the best of my ability,” he said.

“I’m not the coach and I don’t make that decision.

“All I can do is what I control on the field and that’s what it is.”

Roberts has ruled out a move to Super League, not wanting to be so far removed from his family, while few other NRL clubs view him as a regular starting half.
