Carnival turnover rises
TURNOVER on this year’s winter racing carnival increased by 14 per cent with domestic wagering operators, capping a year of strong growth for the thoroughbred code in Queensland.
Racing Queensland will table a 12.8 per cent spike in thoroughbred turnover for 2016-17, in a year where combined turnover across all three codes was up by nearly 10 per cent. The figures will be welcome news to an industry desperately seeking more prizemoney to keep pace with the southern states.
The Doomben 10,000 meeting, held on the opening day of the carnival, had a 7 per cent increase when compared with the corresponding BTC Cup meeting last year.
