Titans search for naming rights suitor
THE Titans are negotiating with several potential sponsors after losing the support of naming rights backers Aquis at the end of the season.
While the Gold Coast trumpeted a five-year deal with Hong Kong billionaire Tony Fung’s Aquis group last year it was, in reality, a oneyear deal with two, two-year options.
Aquis had reportedly baulked at a long-term contract at the time and has decided not to exercise its first option, walking away just a year into the deal.
Despite that, Titans chief executive Graham Annesley said the club remained confident they could attract another major backer to replace the $1 million-plus a year that Aquis had brought to the table.
“We are very grateful to Aquis for stepping in at a time while we were rebuilding the business,” Annesley said.
“The club’s future is now very secure and although Aquis’ corporate objectives have changed, we are already in discussion with a number of high-profile national brands who see the Titans as a great partnership opportunity.”
Aquis stepped in to sponsor the Titans midway through 2015, just six months after the club was taken over by the NRL having been placed in voluntary administration.
