Light rail’s milestone

THE final piece of track will be laid tomorrow on Stage Two of the Gold Coast light rail, effectively connecting Broadbeach to Brisbane.

The final weld will be completed ahead of tram testing in coming weeks.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the final weld was an exciting milestone in the countdown to the commencement of passenger services early next year.

“Light rail has fundamentally changed public transport on the Gold Coast and once Stage Two opens people will be able to travel seamlessly across the Coast and to Brisbane,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

Wires carrying power to the trams will be energised with testing to start soon.
