SEA World’s three-monthold polar bear cub is set to make her public debut next month after finally emerging from her den.

The gorgeous ball of white fluff reached the next stage of her development when she and doting mum Liya left their dark den, which has been home to the pair since the cub was born at the Gold Coast theme park in May.

The specially-designed ‘Cub Kindy’ area is ‘back of house’ at Polar Bear Shores and will enable the cub to develop her life skills away from public view.

She is expected to move to ‘Polar Pre-School’ in late August/early September where she’ll make her public debut.

Sea World marine sciences director Trevor Long said the cub was becoming more inquisitive and playful each day.

“The first time the cub saw Cub Kindy, she was a little nervous, but after learning from mum her confidence grew and she began to dig, run and play in the ice and is now starting to spend more time out there,” he said. “She’s taken a real shine to a small ball which she enjoys playing with and chasing around the ice, keeping Liya on her toes.”

Sea World is still taking votes to help name the cub. ‘Mishka’ is currently the frontrunner. Go to seaworld.com.au/cubcompetition
