Police sift through power tool scam

Gold Coast police are searching for the owners of power tools believed to have been stolen from unsuspecti­ng tradesman. On July 25 a man handed in a large amount of nail guns and other tools to Runaway Bay police station which he had been selling since December after buying them through an online marketplac­e. The man had been contacted by someone who saw the items for sale and claimed a number of them had been stolen from his work trailer at Paradise Point on July 15.

Airport security on high alert following plot

Gold Coast Airport is preparing for ongoing chaos due to extra security measures. The crackdown at Australia’s major airports follow a foiled terrorist plot to blow up a domestic flight at the weekend. Random luggage checks in the foyer, extra security screening at the customs portal and dozens of bomb-sniffing dogs are among the increased security measures at Coolangatt­a airport.

Cycleway path cleared with $410k

Designs for the Tugun to Bilinga Oceanway will be drawn up as part of a $410,000 boost to Gold Coast cycle infrastruc­ture. Acting Main Roads Minister Steven Miles is announcing funding for the GCCC to build two new bikefriend­ly paths. The design is expected to detail a 1.7km, 3.5mwide link in Tugun.
