LOT OF GOOD SPORTS
Many of the enthusiastic competitors at the Aquinas College Athletics Carnival lived up to this year’s theme of Sporting Heroes
THE annual Aquinas College Athletics Carnival has seen enthusiastic students compete at the Griffith University athletics track on a sunny winter’s day.
The theme for the day, Sporting Heroes, was well executed with a number of staff enjoying the opportunity to show their support each day.
Impressively, a number of longstanding school records were broken by the talented athletes.
Year 8 student Michaela Pulford said she was thrilled to receive the age champion medal for 13-year-old girls.
“It was made extra special because my brother received a second place age champion medal too,” she said.
“My favourite events are
middle distance running. There are a lot of good athletes at Aquinas College because of the athletics excellence program, so the competition was fierce but also fun.”
Year 12 student Levi Pulford said the carnival was a nostalgic event for him.
“It was a bit nostalgic for me being my last school carnival but it ended on a great note with our house, McAuley, receiving the Spirit Award as well as the Athletics Trophy, a double win,” he said.
“I enjoy doing the odd events like hurdles and triple jump at the athletics carnival.
“It was fantastic to see so many in their house colours, and to witness the sportsmanship and support displayed by all competitors.”
