Cabbie ‘extortion ruined our night’

A Gold Coast Cabs customer is alleging driver “extortion”, saying she was kicked out for not agreeing to an overpriced unmetered fee upfront. Kerry Brammer and husband Shane hopped in a taxi van at The Star Casino rank on Saturday at 11pm, wanting a trip to Main Beach. The driver asked if any others in the queue were going there, and four people jumped in, agreeing to split the fare. As the fare was typically $20, the driver’s insistence that each pay $10 was rejected so he U-turned and returned them to the rank.
