M1 ghost bridge anger

-

RESIDENTS are furious after waiting more than three years for a second bridge crossing which governments ticked off to link the northern Gold Coast with the Pacific Motorway.

Documents from consultants in April 2013 show stage four of the planning for the $166 million Hope Island Road upgrade was under way which included duplication of the bridges across Jabiru Island.

One Nation Broadwater candidate Brenden Ball, after doorknocking residents, has begun campaigning on the “ghost bridge” in the lead-up to the State poll.

“It was funded as part of the upgrade of the whole section from Oxenford all the way down (to Hope Island),” Mr Ball said.

“It should have been financed. The landing and takeoff pads are there on both sides. There are pylons in the water. It needs to be fixed.”
