would pay, instead pointing out road projects in other parts of the city that taxpayers had already funded.

“What we announced this week is that I would lead, or my agency would lead, a master-planning process for The Spit,” Ms Trad said. “That will include transport solutions for the ultimate development that does occur on The Spit.

“We know that traffic congestion on the Gold Coast is a big issue, that’s why the Palaszczuk Government has been investing extraordinary amounts of money right here on the Gold Coast to make sure that we’ve got better roads and better access during the Commonwealth Games.”

The council also won’t say how they plan to deal with additional traffic. A city spokesman said traffic issues would form part of the cruise ship terminal business case presented to the State Government by the end of the year.

“There is no benefit in preempting what will be in the business case,” he said.

In the meantime, the council is continuing with its planned $10 million upgrades in the area, including a fifth lane at Sundale Bridge and installing traffic lights at Waterways and Seaworld drives.

The spokesman said these upgrades were not related to the cruise ship terminal but general traffic flow.
